Another Blender cycles render of materials that combine emission and glass effects in one object. This one came out closer to a nebula effect - not on purpose, but not unwelcome. As I was working on it in Ps, I started noticing a lot of patterns that looked like faces - thus the name. I've discovered 11 faces so far. How about you?

Nothing too complicated. Just an abstract for the new year.

Not very Halloweenish (which would be my normal subject matter for this time of year). The pattern reminds me of something. Maybe it's a memory of legos, or of a chunk of fool's gold I found when I was a child. There is just something vaguely familiar I cannot quite put my finger on....

Experimenting with stone textures on organic shapes. The shapes in this one have - to me, anyway - a distinct organic feel. I like the contrast of the organic to the mineral, marble-jade texture.

Playing with compound paths in Illustrator. No specific goal here. Just "doodling," I guess.

Started with a photo of jeans... A lot of manipulations and this is where I ended up. Playing with halftone filters and color channels.

Playing with custom textures and meshes in Blender (not a fractal, this time). Created a texture in PS and used it in Blender to texture a custom mesh. Then back to PS for editing. Also skipped AI this time. I just rendered the scene out at an extremely high pixel resolution. Takes a little more time to produce, so I just let it render over night.

I had come up with a long litany of things to say with this piece. However, prudence won out and I removed it all. Instead, I encourage you to take the title and make your own conclusions.

It may be difficult to tell that this began as a fractal rendering. I think that half the fun is coming up with a fractal worth looking at. The other half is wrecking and distorting it beyond all recognition. To me, this looks a little like an aerial shot of some alien terrain.

More abstract fun. Wish I had something deep and profound to say here... I don't. Sometimes a painting is just a painting.

A nod to Mr. Lovecraft with this one. As I played with the colors, I started getting this feeling of retro horror illustration.

A simple abstract of repeating, similar shapes. Why "Flashes of Life?" Not sure. It just seemed alive to me. The shapes first struck me as stars. Then they started to look like something under a microscope, like a virus. So, stars/flash, virus/life... you figure it out.

I wish I could express why I love this. I can't. Much of this piece was experimentation. I actually finished it this weekend, but ran out of time before i could publish it. Then I had real world work today, so I'm just now getting around to finishing up. Hope you like it!

Had some fun with this pseudo abstract of bamboo shoots. I had originally kept the colors very natural - then I started playing around. I found *so* many different versions that I loved; but, I settled on this one. I really like the glow. Makes the bamboo kind of mystical to me. Hmm... Mystic Bamboo... sounds like the name of a New Age group.

Yeah, well, it looks slightly like something gory, to me anyway. This one was created using Photoshop's 3D engine, rather than Blender. For some tasks, Photoshop does quite well. After the initial render, I did some post-processing in Ps, then more work in Ai, then back to Ps to finish up.
